"SHUKAY!" (SEARCH!) is the history of Kyiv in bronze mini-sculptures. The project was created so that Kyiv residents could learn the history of their city during walks.
Our sculpture is dedicated to the "Nicholas Chain Bridge" - the first (at least since the times of Kievan Rus) permanent bridge between Kyiv and the left bank suburbs. The bridge was built in 1853 by the English engineer Charles Vignoles by order of Emperor Nicholas I. The beams of the wooden bridge deck were attached to heavy cast iron chains that were stretched through the arches of the bridge along its entire length. The bridge reliably connected Kyiv with the Left Bank, including during the period of ice drift and floods, when it was the only way to reach the opposite bank of the Dnipro. The structure lasted until 1920, when it was destroyed during the Civil War.
